Public relations work on the Nationwide Alert Day

The “2020 Alert Day working group”, consisting of representatives of the Federal Government/Länder ISF project group, the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance as well as the Länder and the local umbrella associations (German Association of Cities, German Association of Towns and Municipalities and German County Association), worked together to prepare a press and public relations outline concept which defined objectives, target groups, messages, channels and measures of press and public relations work of the Alert Day. We implemented the following measures:

  • A Nationwide Alert Day website went online in several languages (German, German plain language, English, French, Turkish, Polish, Spanish, Russian and Arabic). Integrated into the project website warnung-der-bevoelkerung.de, the Alert Day website included comprehensive information on the Nationwide Alert Day as well as a service portal from which the Länder and municipalities could download a multitude of materials to support their public relations.

Note: For information on the Nationwide Alert Day 2023, please visit the website of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance.

For public relations work on the Nationwide Alert Day, we had developed a key visual, a kind of logo.

  • We also published a flyer with all the important information on the Nationwide Alert Day in different languages (German, English, French, Turkish, Polish, Spanish, Russian, Arabic and German plain language) as well as an information sheet for refugees from war zones.
  • As a basis for communication on the Nationwide Alert Day, we developed a comprehensive catalogue of questions and answers (FAQ), which we continuously supplemented and revised and made available for press and public relations to everyone involved.
  • Together with supporters from relief organisations and municipalities, we informed about warning topics and the Nationwide Alert Day via the social media channels Instagram and Twitter.
  • On the YouTube channel of the Federal Office of Civil Protection and Disaster Assistance, we released a film about the mix of warning devices in Germany, which was used for public relations around the Alert Day.
